Shea Butter is an ivory coloured (ranging from white to yellow) fat, extracted from the nut of the African shea tree. It is called "Ori" in Yoruba and some parts of West Africa while it is called "okume" in Igbo. It's very edible, in Benin Republic it is used as a cooking oil and as a treatment for nasal congestion in Nigeria.
Shea butter's great moisturizing property is due to several natural moisturizing components it contains similar to those present in the skin. It is the same as what is produced by the sebacous glands in the skin.
